Tesla to increase charge rate of fast-charger stations to 120kW

A planned upgrade to its charging technology will allow Tesla Model S drivers to recharge in half the relatively speedy time it takes now. The 120 kW charging technology, which is in beta test mode now and is expected to be available to customers by September 2013, will enable 106 miles of freeway driving with a 20 minute charge.  An 80% charge from empty will be able to be accomplished in under an hour.

There is no charge to use the Supercharger for owners of the 85 kWh Tesla Model S. Owners of the 60 kWh Model S can purchase unlimited access to the charging network for $2,000 or $2,500 if purchased after delivery of the car. The innovative fuel pricing model will allow drivers to criss-cross the country with no fuel cost.
