Pacific Northwest has 10 National Drive Electric Week 2015 Events Scheduled

Oregon Governor Kate Brown has proclaimed September 12th - 20th to be "Drive Electric Week". As part of NDEW 2015, the Pacific Northwest is taking part with 10 events across Oregon and Washington. From Seattle to Spokane and Portland to Lincoln City, EV enthusiasts are gathering throughout the region.

The Seattle Electric Vehicle Association hosts its 5th annual National Drive Electric Week event again in the city of Issaquah, a short drive east of Seattle off I-90, at the historic XXX Root Beer Restaurant, 98 NE Gilman Blvd., Issaquah, WA 98027, from 9 AM to 3 PM on Sunday, September 20th. 

XXX Root Beer is a regional destination famous for its weekly car shows. The Seattle Electric Vehicle Association expects at least 50 vehicles to be on display including a large contingent of Nissan Leafs and Tesla Model S. Also expected to be displayed are: a Coda Sedan; BMW i3s; Chevy Volts; several EV conversions; a couple of Tesla Roadsters; electric motorcycles from Brammo and Zero; and many others.

Besides the display vehicles, organizers are planning to have local dealers on hand with new electric vehicles. Vendors from local businesses will also be displaying products at the event. Prizes will be handed out throughout the day. Special guests are also being lined up.

The Spokane area will host 2 events. The first is Saturday, September 12th from 6:30 AM to Noon at the Mount Spokane Summit, North Summit Rd., Mead, WA 99021. Organizers are planning a drive to the summit. At the top, they will supply donuts and coffee. Sponsor Jaremko Nissan will be available to answer questions about the Leaf.

The following Saturday, September 19th, Spokane EV enthusiasts will gather at The Cork House, 1400 N Meadowwood Lane, Liberty Lake, WA 99019 from 9 AM to 1 PM. Ride and drives will be available in the Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt. BMW i3, Commuter Cars Tango, Think City, Tesla Roadster and Model S P85D.

Meet with electrical engineers and solar enthusiasts who will be discussing how to use solar power to charge EVs. Learn what Avista is doing with solar power through a customer solar estimator tool and the Avista Community Solar program. Ask representatives from Solar Stone how to drastically cut your electric bills.

Free charging is available close to the event from Itron’s 220V 30A charger.

If you are in the Mid-Columbia Region of SE Washington State, the Richland Public Library, 955 Northgate Dr, Richland, Washington, will host an event on Saturday, September 19th from 10 AM to 4 PM. Plug-In North Central Washington hosting their event in conjunction with the Wenatchee Taste of the Harvest Festival on Saturday the September 19th from 9 AM to 4 PM on Wenatchee Avenue (on closed section), Wenatchee, WA 98801. Activities will be integrated with the other displays of electric powered equipment, cars, motorcycles and utility vehicles. Organizers in Steilacoom are planning a potluck and get-together on Sunday, September 13 from 1 PM to 3 PM at Sunnyside Beach Pavilion in Steilacoom, 2509 Chambers Creek Road, Steilacoom, WA 98388. Attendees will all assemble in the Sunnyside Beach parking lot starting at 1 PM for a group vehicle and attendee picture at 1:15 PM. At about 1:30 PM, they will all walk (200 yards) to the Sunnyside Beach Pavilion for a potluck picnic. The Mayor of Steilacoom, Ron Lucas, will be at the event to meet and greet attendees. Attendees will be invited to give a 3-minute speech about their experiences owning an electric vehicle. North Sound Electric Vehicle Association (northsoundeva.org) have their Electric Car Show scheduled for Sunday, September 13 from 10 AM to 3 PM at Western Solar, Inc., 4041 Home Rd., Bellingham, WA 98226. Besides a wide variety of EVs including Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model S, Chevy Volt, Fiat 500e, BMW i3, Tesla Roadster and more, there will be informational booths from the North Sound Electric Vehicle Association, Western Solar, the Sierra Club and more. Food will be available from The Rickshaw, providing Asian fusion options. Wilsonville Town Center, Lamb's Market parking lot, 8255 SW Wilsonville Rd., Wilsonville, OR 97070 will be home to an event on Saturday, September 19th 
10 AM to 2 PM. Organizers are expecting at least 25 EVs on display, Also scheduled to be at the event is the OSU Solar Trailer, which will be in the parking lot charging EVs.

Registered attendees can also sign up to win the "The Ultimate Test Drive.” The winner gets the use of a Nissan Leaf SV premium for a week courtesy of Platt Auto. The contest is hosted by radio sponsor KINK 101.9 FM. Entries accepted beginning September 1st; check driveelectricweek.org for more details.

Members of the Oregon Electric Vehicle Association (OEVA) will have handouts explaining EV's charging as well as offering first hand experiences related to owning an EV.

Solar Oregon will be holding a 1-hour workshop on residential solar beginning at 12:30 PM. Topics include solar in Oregon's climate and available technologies.

EVs will be available for test drive from local dealers including Weston KIA, Herzog-Meier VW, Smart Center of Portland, Tonkin Fiat, Tigard’s Landmark Ford and Lincoln, Wilsonville Chevrolet, Gladstone Mitsubishi, Mercedes-Benz of Wilsonville, and more.

Electric bikes and scooters from Synergy E-Bikes and GenZe by will also be at the event.

There will be 2 National Drive Electric Week events in Lincoln City. First is the Cruisin' the Bay Car Show at the parking lot of Bay House Restaurant, 5911 SW Highway 101, Lincoln City, OR 97367 on September 12 from 9 AM to 3 PM. Last year’s electric car display at the Cruisin’ the Bay Car Show drew lots of curious admirers and the cars were welcomed as the “wave of the future” along with the beautiful classic cars in the show. 

The second Lincoln City event will happen Saturday, September 19. Organizers are encouraging local EV enthusiasts to bring their cars to be part of Lincoln City’s 50th Celebration parade. The parade will run through town from the Lincoln City Cultural Center to the Lincoln City Recreation Center. Charging stations are available behind the Cultural Center (Aerovironment) as well as ChargePoint stations in Taft and downtown. More details will be forthcoming regarding the parade.
