Volvo Announces 100% of Models to be Electrified by 2019

"This announcement marks the end of the solely combustion-engine-powered car," said Håkan Samuelsson, President and CEO of Volvo Cars, in a conference call outlining the company's global electrification strategy. "People increasingly demand electrified cars, and we want to respond to our customers' current and future needs." According to the release, the plan includes introducing electrification technology across their product line. The company also said it will develop a new range of smaller electric cars and build an all-electric car for sale by 2019.

Audi Unveils 300-Mile All-Electric SUV Prototype at LA Auto Show

Audi unveiled a prototype all-electric SUV with a 300-mile range as well as announcing a network of DC charging stations at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2015. The SUV prototype is projected to be available in 2018. Featuring a 95 kWh battery pack, the SUV will be Audi's first all-electric vehicle and will have a range of more than 300 miles.

VW Vehicle Development Restructuring Focuses on BEV

The Volkswagen brand has restructured its vehicle development organization. The new development structure is grouped into four vehicle types: battery electric, small cars, compact vehicles, and mid- and full-size vehicles. Battery Electric Vehicles will be headed up by Christian Senger, who moves to VW from parts supplier Continental AG. Other development groups include: Small Cars like the Polo and Up!, headed by Product Management Chief Klaus-Gerhard Wolpert; Compact Vehicles like the Golf will be developed by Electrical Systems Purchasing Manager Kalheinz Hell; and Mid- and Full-Size Vehicles like the Passat and Touareg will be led by Product Control Chief Dr. Elmar-Marius Licharz.

Nissan CEO Ghosn makes climate change declaration: "We must do more"

Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn declared "The time for debate is over" and the time is now to address climate change. The bold statement was made in a guest column he posted on Forbes.com in December 2015. The post was written following the 2015 Paris Climate Conference and helped explain why Ghosn and 12 other automotive CEOs committed publicly to help decarbonizing automotive transportation. In his post he wrote "If the world is to reduce manmade greenhouse gas emissions that are the cause of global climate change, we must accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy now, starting with cleaner transportation."

Chevrolet Unveils Production Bolt at CES

Chevy will unveil its production 200-Mile $30K all-electric Bolt compact car during the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in January. CES is an annual event that brings nearly 200,000 people from more than 150 countries to Las Vegas to view the latest in cutting-edge technology. A growing number of auto manufacturers and automotive technology companies are showing off their newest products to the early adopters who frequent this show.

Battery EVs could be used for half of holiday road trips

With a little planning your EV could be used to to get you to holiday dinner with family or out-of-town friends. According to the Department of Transportation, the average Thanksgiving long-distance trip length is 214 miles round trip, compared with 275 miles over the Christmas/New Year’s holiday. Of the trips made, 44% are between 50 and 99 miles roundtrip while 56% are more than 100 miles round trip.

Bollore's Blueindy begins offering electric car sharing service in Indianapolis

BlueIndy has put into service the first 50 of an eventual 500 electric vehicle car sharing program. The cars, located at strategic points in the city, provide on-demand transportation with the swipe of a membership card. The zero emission Bluecars run on Lithium Metal Polymer (LMP) batteries developed by Bolloré and have a range of 120 miles between charges. As of September 2015, 125 reserved parking spaces were equipped with charge points.

AAA Colorado unveils truck capable of emergency roadside EV charging

AAA began deploying EV charging trucks in 2011. Since then, they have deployed trucks to municipalities including Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Tucson. AAA Colorado unveiled their electric vehicle charging truck earlier this year.
