Fisker Karma

Although Fisker is still nominally operating, it is expected to restructure or be acquired soon.  A few Karma sedans are still available from dealers at steep discounts - about $75,000 at last check.

The Fisker Karma is a luxury sports sedan that compares most closely with the Tesla Model S. The chief difference is a plug-in hybrid powertrain Fisker calls QDrive that pairs a turbocharged direct injection 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with a 175 kW generator. Although the hybrid powertrain gives the car a theoretically unlimited range with refueling, it will be interesting to see how sales fare versus the 85 kWh Model S, which offers comparable styling, performance and 300 mile range for under $70k, $30k less than the Karma's MSRP base price of $102k.

The Karma packs 403 horsepower and 951 lb-ft of torque, translating into zero-to-60 mph in 6.3 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 125 mph. The “Sport Mode” that the Karma offers gives the driver a more exhilarating ride as the Turbocharged Ecotec 2 liter engine kicks in, delivering electricity directy from the genset to the electric motors and boosting the zero-to-60 time to 5.9 seconds and allowing the Karma to reach its rated top speed of 125 mph.
