Delta introduced its second generation Level 2 40-Amp, 10kW EVSE earlier this year. Approximately half the size of the first generation, the unit's white housing with black accents give it a clean, modern look and its rated for indoor or outdoor use. Its small size means finding a suitable mounting location should be easy. An integrated cord reel makes storing the cord when not in simple task. Adding to the unit's ease-of-use are 3 indicator LEDs that notify users of vehicle charging and any potential faults.
Delta has two versions of the EVSE available. The Basic model foregoes the connected features of the Smart model. To make residential installation easier, the Basic model is equipped with a NEMA 6-30P or 6-50P wall plug. Installing a wall socket should be fairly inexpensive for an electrician.
The Smart model has a variety of connected features that can be accessed through a web and mobile app. With these apps, driver's can start/stop charging, schedule a delayed charge time, locate the closest Delta EVSE, and keep a charge record. The Smart model also includes support for OCPP V1.5 and SNMP standards.
The units are also available in 16-amp and 30-amp configurations to compliment the 40-amp model. The Basic version is available now and Delta expects shipments of the Smart version in December 2015/January 2016.
