The Silicon Valley Chapter of the Electric Auto Association is hosting the 43rd Annual Electric Vehicle (Drive Electric Week) Rally on Saturday, September 19th from 10 AM to 4 PM at the De Anza College, Parking Lot B, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino, CA 95014. In past years, this has been the largest National Drive Electric Week event in the nation and 2015 promises to exceed previous years' number of attendees and EVs on display.

Besides the ride and drive opportunities in cars including Tesla S, Tesla Roadster, possibly a Tesla Model X, Nissan LEAF, Toyota Rav4 EV, VW e-Golf and BMW i3, there will be a variety of exhibitors showing off the newest in green technology. Some of the already-confirmed exhibitors include: Center for Sustainable Energy; Volta; eMotorWerks; and Sungevity Solar. Keeping the kids entertained will be electric bathtub racers and an electric bike/scooter test track. The Silicon Valley Green Transportation Group, The Green Team, will have a large fleet-focused display including: an electric bus, neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs) and electric bicycles; technology such as solar charging, power management, and battery development; and infrastructure tools like security, networking and computer training.

When not talking to local EV owners and enthusiasts, attend the talks about converting vehicles to all-electric and visit the display of custom electric conversion vehicles. Free raffles will be held throughout the day for everything from t-shirts to EVSEs.

Food trucks will be on site throughout the day.

On Sunday, September 20th, head to the Monterey bay area event from noon to 4 PM at the Capitola Mall, 1855 41st Ave., Capitola, CA 95010.

Ecology Action will be hosting test drives providing guests with the opportunity to get behind the wheel of some of the most popular electric vehicles on the market today. Take a drive or two or three, talk with local experts and dealers, and compare between models. Also on hand will be a selection of electric bikes.

Besides the ride and drive section, there will be a large electric vehicle display where you will have the chance to take a look at all types of EV models and talk with the owners about their experiences.

This year’s event also features kid-centric activities that will be fun for the whole family. The Santa Cruz Children's Museum of Discovery, based at the Capitola Mall, will be offering opportunities for kids to build their own robotics. In addition, kids will have the opportunity to assemble a mini version of the world's first solar powered family car! All parts, solar panels, tools and instructions will be provided. This will be first come first serve. Sign-up begins at Noon. Project starts at 12:30 PM and the assembly project takes about 2 hours. There will be a finale race of the STELLA "Mini Solar Cars" at 3 PM. This activity is most appropriate for ages 9-12 (Each student must be accompanied by an adult). This opportunity is made possible by Fused, an after-school program to inspire the next generation of innovators.

While at the event, enter the free raffle for the chance to win an electric vehicle charger from Clipper Creek.
